Description
Ancient mysteries: the odyssey of Troy: In the more than 3,000 years since the fall of Troy, the legends of the Trojan Horse, Helen, and Achilles have fueled some of archaeology's most celebrated expeditions. Join host Leonard Nimoy on an exhaustive exploration of the legendary city's remarkable ruins and take a closer reading of Homer's "The Illiad" to unearth the secrets of Troy. -- Treasure! The ancient gold of Troy: When archeologist Heinrich Schleiman uncovered the ruins of Troy in the 1870's, among the many artifacts unearthed were stunningly crafted works of gold. They were amazingly lost again in the aftermath of World War II, and recovered in the secret vaults of a Russian museum, to once again evoke the glory of one of the world's most storied civilizations. -- The Trojan city: For centuries "The Illiad" was considered to be more fiction than fact. In 1873, controversial archeologist Heinrich Schliemann, using clues from Homer's epic poem, discovered the remains of a city he believed to be Troy. But it wasn't until the 1990's that conclusive evidence confirmed his findings and gave new credence to Homer's account of the war.
