Description
In 2009, organized crime took over the Mexican community of Ostula. Murders and enforced disappearances soon became part of daily life. The entire community was displaced and the drug cartel took over their land.  In 2014, armed self-defense groups helped the community reclaim their land. Community members who had been terrorized felt safe enough to return and begin reconstruction of the village and their farms. RECOVERING PARADISE documents the community’s fight to live in peace on their homeland.  Official Selection at the **Stockholm Independent Film Festival**. Winner of Best Documentary at the **International Indigenous Film Festival**.
