Description
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (I.D.E.A.) provides six principles that govern the education of children with special needs. It's one thing to read the law, but how do you ensure you comply with it and provide the best learning experience for your students? This examination of I.D.E.A. gives background information, insight, and strategies every inclusive classroom teacher can use. We take a detailed look at the importance of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and how to effectively work with other members of the IEP team, including parents and caregivers of special needs children. Learn: -The 14 disabilities that fall under I.D.E.A. services. -Tips on how to adopt a truly inclusive mindset. -Steps to follow if you believe a student needs special services. -Tactics for positive collaboration with IEP team members. -How to write effective IEP goals and objectives. -Strategies for giving input during the IEP meeting. -About due process, if there is a dispute between parents and the school. -Classroom practices to help both special needs and general ed. students. -Examples of accommodations that can be made for testing. -How to plan supports and interventions to address behavior problems.
